Music lovers in Luxembourg will feel the hit to their wallet: Spotify has increased prices for all types of subscriptions. An individual tariff now costs €12.99 a month, two euros more than before. This puts Luxembourg on a par with the Netherlands, but above Belgium, where the price has only risen to €11.99.
Other tariffs were not spared from the increase:
- Student fare - now €6.99 instead of the previous €5.99
- Duo subscription (for two) - €17.99 (plus €3)
- Family plan (up to six accounts) - €21.99 vs. €17.99 previously
Thus, family subscriptions were the hardest hit, rising in price by 4 euros at once.
Yes, and this is the second increase in a year - the previous wave came in the summer of 2023. With these new rates, Luxembourg has become one of Spotify's most expensive markets in Europe. By comparison, an individual subscription in Germany still costs €10.99.
The company attributes the price increase to rising licence costs and investment in new services - especially in the area of podcasts and audiobooks. However, users are increasingly questioning the fairness of the increase, asking: what is the real "added value"?
According to the Backstage PRO platform, the reaction to the price increase is mixed. Many people are ready to abandon the service or are looking for alternatives. Among the main competitors are Apple Music, Deezer and YouTube Music, although they have also recently raised their prices.
