The Luxembourg Minister of Health provided an update on the work on the reform of the health professions. This concerns both the educational requirements and the duties of professionals. The aim is to adapt the system to the challenges of modern medicine and to make the professions more attractive.

The reform is considering the idea of creating an intermediate qualification between a nursing assistant and a baccalaureate nurse. This proposal is in line with the coalition agreement to increase opportunities for professional development, including the creation of educational bridges to enable progression to higher level qualifications.

The reform will be implemented gradually within the current legislative period. It covers:

  • Revising the requirements for educational standards;
  • Updating responsibilities and competencies for different levels of medical staff;
  • Involvement of the professional community and key stakeholders in the development of new standards.

Luxembourg is facing a shortage of health personnel, which makes the reform of health education strategically important. New qualifications can facilitate access to the profession and fill gaps between different levels of training.
