When faced with a medical emergency, it's important to distinguish between life-threatening situations that require immediate action and less serious medical concerns that can be dealt with in the morning, or at least without reasonable haste.

Besides urgent calls, the 112 line can also provide you with essential information. They can share addresses and opening hours of medical centers if your family doctor is absent, pharmacies, hospitals, and general practitioners on call, as well as veterinary and locksmiths.

How much does it cost to call an ambulance in Luxembourg

Calling an ambulance is not free In Luxembourg, but it is generously covered by state health insurance in a multitude of cases. 

There are several factors to consider:

  • An ambulance call for a child will be covered 70-80% with CNS health insurance;
  • Calling an ambulance with assisting doctor (called SAMU) will cost you more;
  • Ambulance invoices are sent after the ambulance service has been provided;
  • If the patient is not lying down during transport, the emergency "taxi" service will cost more.

The cost of an ordinary ambulance is about 120 euros. An ambulance with the doctor is about 270 euros, not including the cost of consultations with specialists at the hospital where you will be taken.

Hospitals for urgent care in Luxembourg: kids and adults

In Luxembourg, several hospitals are open around the clock for emergencies, offering specialized care for those in need. When you call an emergency, you will be taken to the closest hospital that is on duty.
