OGBL and LCGB insist on zero tolerance for violence

Luxembourg's two largest trade unions, OGBL and LCGB, have strongly condemned the recent attack on a security officer. In a joint statement, they emphasised that while the security profession carries certain risks, violence is not part of the job and should be punished with the utmost severity.
The syndicates recall that security guards play an important role in public order and in return they deserve safe working conditions and respect. They demand that all employers in the sector
- Adopt a zero tolerance policy on violence, making it clear that assaults are not acceptable;
- Strengthen legislative measures so that attacks on security guards are punished more severely;
- Improve working conditions and pay, as they were recognised as essential workers during the pandemic, but this assessment has not yet been reflected in their income and protection.
The syndicates emphasise that employers have a duty to ensure the safety of their employees. This requires identifying and preventing risks, improving workplaces and providing modern equipment. They also insist on mandatory courses on conflict management and the analysis of aggression cases to better predict and prevent such incidents.
The OGBL and LCGB state that the problem requires a collective solution involving employers, security firm clients and the authorities. In their view, only by working together can we create safe working conditions and protect those who care about the safety of the public on a daily basis.
