In response to a parliamentary enquiry about radar systems on major motorway construction sites, the Luxembourg Ministers of Transport and Interior provided an update. From 2024, the police will use the updated system to monitor speeding violations on the A3 and A4 motorways.

Where are the radars installed?

  • A4: 4 radars between Foetz and Leudelange.
  • A3: 3 radars towards Livange and 1 towards Luxembourg.

Police use 5 mobile radars hidden in civilian vehicles and 2 fixed radar trailers for construction sites.

Between 2021 and 2023, 887,861 offences were recorded. Data for 2024 is still being processed, but it is already clear that the installation of radar improves driver discipline.

To increase safety and awareness of drivers, construction sites are additionally installed:

  • Dashboards.
  • Additional horizontal and vertical markings.

Police conduct regular patrols in construction zones, especially in high accident areas.

The Ministry of Transport, the police and organisations such as Sécurité Routière ASBL regularly launch campaigns against speeding. These initiatives aim to reduce the number of accidents and improve road behaviour.
