Strengthening the police in Luxembourg: a new step towards security
Luxembourg's Minister of the Interior, Léon Gloden, has announced an important reform: the Gare-Hollerich police commissariat will operate 24/7 from May 2025 with an increase in the number of officers. This move aims to strengthen security in the Gare and Hollerich neighbourhoods, which require increased attention due to their social specificity.
The decision is linked to the need for a more effective police presence in these areas. As part of the reorganisation, it is planned to concentrate police efforts in one commissariat, which will allow the deployment of a team more familiar with the specificities of the territory and its population.
What's going to change?
- The Gare-Hollerich Commissariat will move to three shifts, providing 24-hour duty.
- Approximately 12 new employees will be added.
- Additionally, traffic police, canine officers and judicial police officers will be patrolling the area.
A similar reform will affect the commissariat in the city of Ettelbrück, which will also start working around the clock from mid-2025, receiving a similar increase in staff.
The Minister emphasised that the police alone is not enough to solve all problems. Security issues in the Gare and Hollerich districts are often linked to social problems that require an integrated approach and the involvement of other organisations.
