Luxembourg is once again at the forefront of digital technology. The national government, in collaboration with Clarence SA - a joint venture between LuxConnect and Proximus Luxembourg - has signed an agreement to launch a sovereign cloud platform ensuring full privacy and data security. This project reinforces Luxembourg's ambitions to become a leader in digital autonomy.

Minister of Digitalisation Stéphanie Obertin highlighted the significance of the move, stressing that the new cloud service will support the development of modern, secure applications and meet the needs of public institutions, municipalities and national organisations. The decision is a continuation of recent initiatives such as MeluXina-AI and AI Factory, and plays a key role in building a national data ecosystem.

The platform is powered by a cloud service deployed in two LuxConnect Tier IV data centres. It provides a combination of public cloud capabilities and Luxembourg's strict jurisdiction to achieve complete control over data. Clarence offers:

  • Complete privacy and autonomy;
  • Compliance with European and national data protection standards;
  • Ability to integrate with legislative initiatives such as artificial intelligence laws and future health data regulation.

The sovereign cloud service meets today's cybersecurity challenges, especially in critical areas such as national security, defence, education and research. The service will include specialised sandboxes for testing in a highly secure environment, making Luxembourg attractive to international partners and investors.

According to LuxConnect CEO Paul Konsbrook, the solution will not only create a powerful tool for data management, but also strengthen the country's autonomy in the digital sphere.
