The Luxembourg Ministry of Mobility announces the introduction of a temporary speed limit on the A1 motorway towards Luxembourg City. Due to significant wear and tear of the metal safety barriers (glissières de sécurité), drivers will have to reduce their speed to 90 km/h on a section of about 500 metres between the Munsbach and Cargo-Center junctions.
This measure is considered precautionary and is aimed at reducing the risk of accidents in case of hitting damaged or weakened structures. According to the report, the restriction will remain in place until the complete removal and installation of new guardrail elements, the exact timing of which has not yet been specified.
Such localised restrictions are not uncommon on Luxembourg motorways, especially in areas where infrastructure repairs or upgrades have not yet begun. Motorists are advised to be particularly careful on this stretch of road, especially during darkness or in poor visibility conditions.
The repair of motorway guardrails is part of an overall programme to upgrade and improve the safety of road infrastructure, which is being implemented on a number of key highways across the country.
