The new P+R Héienhaff car park: more spaces - but not for everyone

Luxembourg's expanded P+R Héienhaff car park near the airport will open from 28 April. It will add 481 new car spaces, including 11 spaces for people with reduced mobility. A bikebox for 32 bicycles is also provided, making the facility more adaptable to multimodal transport.
The car park will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but it can only be used free of charge under certain conditions. Free parking for up to 24 hours will only be available to drivers who transfer to a tram or bus and travel more than 1.5 kilometres. This means that airport passengers and employees of nearby offices will not be able to take advantage of this offer - their journeys are considered too short.
This innovation is part of a transport policy aimed at reducing traffic in the metropolitan area and encouraging the use of public transport. This approach fits in with Luxembourg's overall strategy to develop P+R (Park and Ride) car parks, which serve as a bridge between private and public transport.
The project cost €4 million and further expansion is already being considered - probably in response to the growing number of users of the tram line to the airport and increasing congestion in the surrounding area.
