Luxembourg's film industry is starting the Festival de Cannes on a strong note: two projects with local producers have been included in the official programme of the 78th edition. One film is in the main competition, the other in a special out-of-competition section.

In the main competition programme is a new film by Iranian director Jafar Panahi entitled Un simple accident. On the Luxembourg side of the project is the production company Bidibul Productions, represented by Christel Henon and Lilian Eche. For Panahi, who works under constant pressure in his country, participating in Cannes is not only a creative gesture but also an act of freedom.

The programme of special screenings includes Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol, a new work by French animation director Sylvain Chomet, known for The Trio of Belleville and The Illusionist. It is a poetic journey through the memories of the writer Marcel Pagnol, shown through the prism of his childhood alter ego.

Luxembourg-based Bidibul Productions again coproduced the film, together with partners from France and Belgium. Doghouse Studio (animation, backgrounds, sets) and Philophon (post-production and sound) were also involved in the film.

From 13 to 22 May, the Film Fund Luxembourg will represent Luxembourg at the Cannes Film Market through its national pavilion at Village International. Two dozen entities are expected to participate, from production companies to organisations such as EAVE, Luxembourg City Film Festival and Europe Créative - Media.

A key event will be the Luxembourg Day at Cannes on 17 May. It will be attended by Eric Thill, Minister of Culture, as well as industry and media representatives.

For Luxembourg, participation in the Festival de Cannes is not just a cultural mission, but a tool for international positioning. Through coproductions such as the projects of Christel Henon and Lilian Eche, the country reinforces its reputation as a reliable and creative partner in the European audiovisual industry.
