SOS Détresse extends support in English: now also on Sundays

Starting in May, the psychological service SOS Détresse in Luxembourg is extending the opening hours of its English-language hotline. Sundays will be added to the existing Wednesday and Saturday opening hours - calls will be accepted from 11:00 to 23:00.
This decision was in response to a steady increase in referrals within existing time slots. More and more English-speaking residents - whether expats, temporary workers or international students - are looking for accessible and confidential support in their own language.
A special feature of the innovation is that help is now available on both weekends. This is important: many English-speaking subscribers are unable to access the service on weekdays due to work or other commitments. The additional Sunday window makes the service more accessible to the most vulnerable.
The English-language SOS Détresse line was launched in 2022 as a complement to the existing Luxembourg, German and French lines, which are open daily from 11:00 to 23:00 and until 3:00 a.m. at weekends.
In addition to calls, there is an online platform called OnlineHelp, where users can seek support via email or chat. For more details, visit www.454545.lu.
In multilingual Luxembourg, where English is increasingly becoming a working and everyday language, having reliable emotional support in English is not a luxury, but a necessity. SOS Détresse effectively removes the linguistic barrier to mental health care, offering an open door to those who might otherwise go without help.
