Major companies like PWC, Deloitte, and Alter Domus have made this area their home, attracting a population with high purchasing power. The district is also home to Luxembourg's largest shopping center, the new Ban de Gasperich Park, the country's largest green space since its recent inauguration, and the Stade de Luxembourg, a state-of-the-art national football and rugby stadium.

Transport accessibility

Gasperich, with its expansive layout, experiences varying distances depending on the starting point within the neighborhood. The ease of transport, however, remains a highlight, offering multiple options for residents.

By car
The neighborhood benefits from a strategic location, with proximity to major roadways and the Croix de Gasperich in the southeast facilitating quick access to the main highways. A car journey to the city center takes a mere 10 minutes, and reaching the Kirchberg business district on the opposite end of the city is just over 15 minutes. Gasperich provides 12 outdoor parking spaces, and three Park + Ride (P+R) facilities are conveniently located near the neighborhood borders, one at the football stadium, another east of the Croix de Gasperich, and a third one at the south in the Kockelscheuer forest.
By bus
Gasperich boasts an extensive bus network, featuring a dozen lines: 5, 13, 18, 20, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, CN2, and CN8. A ride to the city center takes only 10 to 15 minutes, making it a practical choice. For slightly more distant locations like Kirchberg, commuting times range from 15 minutes to half an hour. The neighborhood is also equipped with eight Veloh self-service stations, promoting cycling convenience.
By tram
While not currently traversing Gasperich, a tram extension is in the pipeline, extending its reach to La Cloche d'Or. Anticipated to be operational in 2024, this extension will further enhance the neighborhood's connectivity.
By foot
Due to its location, walking to the city center from Gasperich may not be the most convenient option, with travel times ranging from half an hour to an hour.
By train
A noteworthy advantage of Gasperich is its access to the Hollerich train station, significantly facilitating mobility for those needing to travel beyond the capital.

Pros and cons of living in the Gasperich neighborhood

Living in Gasperich comes with several advantages, prominently anchored in its strategic location and comprehensive infrastructure. Proximity to major highways facilitates easy connectivity, while the presence of a well-rounded infrastructure, featuring residential zones in the north and commercial areas in the south, enhances the neighborhood's appeal.

A significant positive aspect is the thriving Cloche d'Or commercial and business area, housing major corporations like PWC, Deloitte, and Alter Domus. The Cloche d'Or shopping center stands out, providing an unparalleled shopping experience for residents.

Another noteworthy advantage is the recently inaugurated Ban de Gasperich Park, the country's largest green space. This expansive park not only offers a natural retreat but also fosters a strong connection with nature for residents.

However, it's essential to consider the drawbacks. The real estate market, particularly rental prices, is considerably high, surpassing the citywide average. Additionally, the neighborhood's slight distance from the city center may pose a challenge for those preferring pedestrian commutes, and public transport journeys to distant areas, such as the Kirchberg business district, can be time-consuming. Nevertheless, the upcoming tram extension to La Cloche d’Or is anticipated to significantly alleviate this concern, enhancing the overall living experience in Gasperich.

Historical overview

Gasperich, once a rural expanse, has a rich historical tapestry dating back to Roman times when it housed several farms known as villas. Two millennia ago, Gasperich was strategically located near two Roman roads, including the renowned "Stengesche Wee," a trade route linking the ancient settlement of Dalheim's plateau to the Roman road from Arlon to Trier.

Benedictine Abbey

In 1083, Gasperich's name first appeared in the foundational document of the Benedictine Abbey of Altmünster. The abbey received lands in Gasperich, situated on the Mons Cuconis. Medieval tax records offer insights into the population, with three "foyers" or farms recorded in 1528. By the first official Luxembourg census in 1806, Gasperich had grown to 18 houses and a population of 98.

Brick factory in Gasperich

The year 1869 marked the establishment of a brick factory in Gasperich, succeeded in 1921 by a tar factory operational until 1983. The district saw further development with the construction of its first school in 1904 and the consecration of a church in 1933.Originally part of the Hollerich commune, Gasperich became a district of Luxembourg City in 1920 when neighboring communes merged with the city. This transformative journey from a rural backdrop to an integral city district showcases Gasperich's historical evolution.
