The American embassy in Luxembourg will continue to work in a normal mode, despite rumours in the media about possible closures of consulates and embassies. This was stated by embassy spokeswoman Meghan Dean in a comment to L'essentiel, specifying that no decisions on closures, including the representation in Luxembourg, have been taken.
The official reaction was prompted by a Politico article that referred to a leaked internal U.S. State Department document related to a review of the U.S. global presence abroad. However, as Dean emphasises, this is a planned review, which takes place on a regular basis and does not mean immediate or specific action.
"We continue to engage diplomatically with our allies, including Luxembourg, to advance American national interests and shared policy priorities," she added.
The embassy confirmed that all consular services continue as usual: American citizens can apply for passports, visas and other administrative matters as before.
