Findel International Airport (Findel), Luxembourg's only air gateway, continues to rapidly increase passenger traffic. After the historic milestone of 5 million passengers for 2024, the momentum continues: around 600,000 people are forecast to pass through here during the Easter holidays in spring 2025.

The figure is staggering - almost as many inhabitants as in the whole of Luxembourg. However, as Alexander Flassak, CEO of lux-Airport, emphasises, the airport serves not only Luxembourgers, but also people from the entire Greater Region - the surrounding areas of Germany, France and Belgium: "The airport is really crowded. We recommend that all passengers arrive early - at least two and a half hours before departure - and prepare thoroughly for their journey," Flassak emphasised in an interview with L'Essentiel.

The success of the airport is attributed to a number of factors:

  • Geographical location: Luxembourg is located in the very centre of Western Europe and the airport is only 15 minutes from the capital.
  • Destination diversity: Findel serves both major European destinations and more niche routes, including budget airlines.
  • Regional coverage: For many residents of neighbouring regions, Findel is the nearest convenient airport, especially for holiday travel.

The boom at Findlay reflects the general trend of recovery and growth in air travel after the pandemic downturn. But it also raises questions about capacity and infrastructure resilience: how will the airport cope with the growing number of passengers in the future? There are already queues at check-in and security checks, which can affect the comfort of travelling.
