The Luxembourg tax service is warning of a new fraudulent scheme aimed at swindling money from citizens and companies. Fraudsters are sending out fake tax payment notices purporting to be from the Luxembourg tax office.

The forged documents contain:

  • Errors in spelling and dates (e.g., mentioning payments credited up to 2026).
  • False bank account for payment.
  • Wrong case number.

The letters state the requirement for prompt payment to prevent late interest charges.

If you receive such a letter, do not send money. If in the slightest doubt, contact the Luxembourg tax authorities at one of the official telephone numbers.

For Luxembourg residents:

  • Luxembourg: 247-52475
  • Esch-sur-Alzette: 247-52474
  • Dudelange: 247-52485
  • Other numbers can be found on the ministry's official website.

For companies:

  • Luxembourg: (+352) 247-52475
  • Diekirch: (+352) 247-52481

How do you protect yourself?

  • Always check the authenticity of documents.
  • Call only the official telephone numbers listed on the Luxembourg tax office website.
  • Never transfer money to dodgy details.

Be careful and protect your finances from scammers.
