On Wednesday, Transport Minister Yuriko Backes proudly watched an impressive 600-ton crane at work installing beams weighing up to 80 tons in the construction of Howald Station. These beams will support the slab that will become the platform for the multi-use interchange.

Construction is expected to be completed in a year. In September 2025, the slab will be handed over to Luxtram, which will install the tracks and platforms for the opening in spring 2026.

Despite delays in the construction of the second tram line due to administrative problems, Yuriko Backes is confident that the tram will be running in both directions in Howald in 2026. "This place will receive trams, buses, pedestrians, cyclists: the principle of multifunctionality is welcome here. The aim is to make the traffic flow smoother and reduce the burden on the capital's main railway station," the minister added.

The project was a joint effort between the Bridges and Roads Authority, CFL and Luxtram. As Roland Fox, director of the authority, points out, the planning was complicated by the need to take into account a large number of parameters.
