Luxembourg, as a member party to the Rome Statute, has expressed its full support for the independence and impartiality of the International Criminal Court (ICC) following its high-profile judgement. The ICC has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and the leader of Hamas' military wing, Mohammed Deif. These individuals are charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Ministers of Justice Elisabeth Marg and Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel emphasised that Luxembourg intends to strictly comply with its international obligations under the Rome Statute, which governs the ICC. This position demonstrates the State's principled commitment to the rule of international law, despite the political sensitivity of the situation.

The ICC judgement has generated global attention and poses important questions for countries like Luxembourg: how to balance national interests, foreign policy and the need to respect international justice. Obviously, the upcoming implementation of the court's judgements will be a test not only for Luxembourg, but also for the entire international system.
